Choosing Zurich Hotels - Where to Stay...

For most visitors, the big drawback with hotels in Zurich is price! Put simply, it's an expensive city to visit so, while quality is generally very good, bargains are few and far between (even out of season). That said, larger chain hotels on the outskirts of town - such as InterContinental and Mövenpick properties - do provide good value for money, as do smaller establishments with less amenities than downtown four and five star hotels.

When deciding on a neighbourhood, it's important to consider general location. The city's most expensive hotels are located in and around the Old Town, with those close to the Limmat River, Grossmünster, Fraumünster and Bahnhofstrasse carrying a price premium. For those on a weekend shopping trip to the city, we suggest hotels such as the Franziskaner Hotel, Hotel Schweizerhof, and Hotel Adler which are not only good quality, but as central as you can get.

Choosing Zurich hotels slightly further afield will save you money, although the availability of public transport should be considered carefully. Fortunately, as Zurich has a first-class bus, tram and S-Bahn (commuter train) network, even hotels in outlying districts (such as Oerlikon) enjoy good connections to the city centre. As a rule, check our listings to see which district the hotel is situated in. Central districts have lower numbers in their postcode i.e. 8001, whereas those on the outskirts are given higher numbers i.e. 8044.
