||||||||
UK TravellersAlthough it takes over 18 hours to reach Zurich's Sihlquai bus terminal (from London Victoria), Eurolines coach services offer the benefit of cheap fares and flexible ticket options. Currently charging £99 (in high season) for an adult return to Zurich, other fares include: child return £45 (ages 2-12) and young persons/senior return £95. Their website also features a range of promotional fares offering significant reductions over standard prices (via an online booking facility) with separate 15 day advanced purchase tickets giving roughly a 20% reduction. Services to Zurich run from London Victoria and arrive at Sihlquai Bus terminal, Ausstellungsstrasse 15, 8005 Zurich (Tel: +41 44 216 53 39), located 200 meters behind the city's main railway station (Hauptbahnhof). Check-in is one hour before departure and baggage is limited to one suitcase plus hand luggage. For fully-escorted tours to Zurich, include those offered by highly respected UK holiday company Wallace Arnold, while other specialist firms include Titan Travel. In addition, for one-day coach tours around Zurich, check out our range of sightseeing packages! European TravellersFor journeys to Switzerland from Europe, one of the best options currently available is Busabout. With a pan-European network covering 70 destinations, it allows you to travel the continent by pre-booking each leg of your journey with a Busabout guide, or via the company's own website. In addition, your guide can phone ahead on a specific part of the journey to help organise accommodation (you can also book further in advance if required). Although Zurich is not served directly by Busabout, the popular Swiss destinations of Bern, Lauterbrunnen (for Interlaken) and Lucerne are, the latter of which is only 1 hour from Zurich by train. What's more the service is flexible enough to not only permit night stops, but day stops too (meaning you can hop off a bus and re-join the network at a later date). With consecutive and flexi-passes both starting at €359, it's also a highly cost-effective way to see Switzerland and Europe. What's more, if you have a valid ISE card, ISIC card, Go25 card, Under 26 card, or recognised youth, student or teacher ID card then you'll receive a reduced rate Busabout pass at 'Cardholder' prices. Alternatively, Eurolines offer their own pass, valid for 15, 30 or 60 days. Other ticket options include adult, youth, senior citizen and child singles/returns as well as open draw (flexible) tickets. The company's website at www.eurolines.com also features a range of promotional fares offering significant reductions over their standard prices (via an online booking facility). Domestic Coach ServicesLinking closely with domestic railway services to serve many of Switzerland's more inaccessible destinations, yellow postbuses (see www.swisspost.ch) operate on 685 scheduled routes throughout the country. Postbuses are also supplemented by PostCars - upscale coaches which
offer tours and day trips to some of Switzerland's most scenic
areas. |
