Zurich Maps

maps As Zurich Tourism offices are among the most well-stocked anywhere in Europe, picking up free information and good quality maps is child's play. Before you go, check out their website at: www.zurichtourism.ch, while city centre maps can be picked up at their Tourist Service office in Zurich's Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). Opening hours are as follows: Mon-Sat 8.30am-7.00pm and Sun 9.00am-6.30pm (1 Nov-30 Apr) and Mon-Sat 8am-8.30pm, Sun 8.30am-6.30pm (1 May-31 Oct).

Unfortunately, few maps of Zurich are available to buy online or from bookshops (unless you purchase an entire guide/map to Switzerland). Consequently, we've not included any recommendations here. However, a good online map of the city can be found at: www.gis.zh.ch/gb3/stzh.

Metro System (U-Bahn)

Money

money Switzerland's official currency is the Swiss franc. (abbreviated and referred to throughout this guide as CHF) which is available in the following denominations:

Coins: 5, 10, 20, 50 Cents and 1, 2, 5 Francs
Bank notes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 1000 Francs

The official exchange rate against the British pound, US dollar, Canadian dollar and other currencies can be found on the Internet at: www.xe.com.

Newspapers and Publications

International editions of English and North American papers, together with journals and listing booklets are widely available in Zurich Most are readily found in major hotels, at train stations and newsstands/foreign language bookshops. So far as national and local newspapers/magazines are concerned, details of daily Swiss publications can be found at: www.abo.ch/zeitungen (with magazines at: www.buy.ch). However, a short list of the best priced, free and Internet only publications is as follows:
