New Year's Eve/Day celebrations.
Six Nations Rugby Tournament (February to April) - once five, but now six, the inclusion of Italy into this European rugby tournament has brought a new dimension to the proceedings at Dublin's Croke Park Stadium. Colours Boat Race - taking place along the River Liffey, this annual rowing competition sees Dublin University (Trinity) pit themselves against University College Dublin in a race through Dublin's city centre. Passing under eight bridges along the way, the teams finish at the gates to the Guinness' Brewery on Victoria Quay.
Laytown Beach Races - with horses having raced here since 1867, this unique annual event is the last remaining beach event under Jockey Club rules. Of course, with runners more used to racing on turf than sand, even horses with long odds have a chance of winning. With the course built from scratch on Laytown's huge beach, this an event not to be missed.
Diversions Festival, Temple Bar (summer months) - running from June until September, the country's longest and largest festival of free outdoor events takes place in the public squares and spaces of Temple Bar. For further information visit: www.templebar.ie.
Bloomsday (16th June) - a week long set of informal events, readings and re-enactments to commemorate the day in 1904 in which James Joyce's novel Ulysses takes place. Also includes a series of walks to visit locations within the book.

All-Ireland Hurling Final - known these days as the Guinness Hurling Championships, this knock-out competition culminates with a final being played at Croke Park (with the winners picking up the Liam McCarthy Cup).
