Aimed squarely at women aged 18-30, Black Market offers a wide-range of designer seconds, coupled with bargain racks, club wear, shades and accessories. Prices are comparatively high, although even without making a purchase you're likely to come away with lots of fashion ideas.

Delmas  - Lucerna

Vodičková 36, Praha 1, Nové Město, Tel: +420 224 239 132, Website: www.delmas.cz, Metro: Můstek/Tram 3, 9, 14, 24,Open: 9am-7pm Mon-Fri, 10am-5pm Sat
Italian designer chic at affordable Czech prices is how to describe Delmas. Offering a wide-range of handbags and leather accessories (including men's wallets, belts, briefcases, notebooks etc.) quality is a strongpoint, while the designs themselves offer a fashionable - and cheaper - alternative to offerings at boutiques in London or New York.

Galerie Módy - Lucerna

Štěpánská 61, Praha 1, Tel: 2421 1514, E-mail: fejkova@volny.cz, Metro: Open 10am-7pm Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm Sat
Very much at the forefront of Czech design, Galerie Módy (which is located on the first floor of the Lucerna Palace) has all the latest creations from Prague's top fashion houses including Joseph Taptuch, Atelier Nikkita and E-daniely. Concentrating on linen and light materials, quality is first rate, while prices are reasonable for designer gear. And, if you fancy a coffee, the in-house Café Galeria is a great place to check your receipts after buying a few cocktail dresses!

Ivana Follová

Ungelt, Týn 1, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 224 895 460, Fax: +420 224 895 463, Website: www.ifart.cz, (chortle, chortle), Metro: Náměsti Republiky, Open daily 10am-7pm
High-quality goods at affordable prices - Ivana Follová stocks a trendy range of original fashions including separates, dresses, accessories, jewellery, scarves, shades and hats. Great for gift ideas.

Karpet

Nerudova 18, Praha 1, Malá Strana, Website: www.karpet.cz, Tel: +420 225 339 823, Metro: Malostranská, Open daily 8am-8pm
Hats and caps galore at this first-rate men's shop (other stores listed on the company's website also stock ladies products). The vast majority of items on sale here are produced domestically, thus ensuring reasonable prices for locals and visitors alike. Must confess though, we still have no idea as to why the place is called Karpet...

Modes Robes

Small, trendy boutique featuring in-houses designs and the fashions of other local talent. A bit of a mixed bag, though you don't have to look too hard to find a bargain (or two). With a pleasant coffee bar attached.

Mořská Nemoc

Masná 19, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 224 826 016, Metro: Náměsti Republiky/Tram 5, 14, 26, Open: 10am-6pm Mon-Fri, 10am-1pm Sat

Prague Shoe Shops

Bat'a

Václavské nám. 6, Praha 1, Nové Město, Tel: +420 224 218 133, E-mail: bata@bata.cz, Website: www.bata.cz Metro: Můstek/Tram 3, 9, 14, 24, Open: 9am-8pm Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm Sat/Sun
Although many people are familiar with the world famous Bata brand, few realise that the company's founder, Tomáš Bata, was Czech. During the Communist era, the Bata factory in the Czech Republic was nationalised, but the brand, already well-established abroad still thrived. Nowadays, Bata stores have returned to the Czech Republic and their flagship store (on Wenceslas Square) is well-worth a visit if you're after fashionable, high-quality footwear.

Humanic

Národní třída 34, Praha 1, Nové Město, Tel: +2494 8811, Metro: Můstek/Národní třída, Tram 6, 9, 18, 22, Open: 9am-8pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Sat, 10am-6pm Sun
Austrian owned chain stocking medium to top-of-the-range footwear. Not as cheap as certain Prague guides tell you, though Humanic is geared more towards the younger market.

Leiser

Na Příkopě 12 9/11, Praha 1, Nové Město, Tel: +420 222 242 973, Website: www.leiser.cz, Metro: Můstek/Tram 3, 9, 14, 24, *Open: 9am-8pm Mon-Fri, 9am-7pm Sat, 11am-7pm Sun
Definitely one for those with Imelda Marcos tendencies, Leiser offers among the widest selection of shoes in the city. Not cheap, but a worthy find nonetheless.

Vagabond

Located in the Myslbek mall, Vagabond offers an excellent - and well-priced - selection of footwear including fashion shoes, trainers (sneakers) and sandals.
