Popular Prague Cinemas:

Aero

Biskupcova 31, Praha 3, Žižkov, Tel: +420 271 771 349, E-mail: info@kinoaero.cz, Website: www.kinoaero.cz, Trams 9, 10, 16, 19 to stop Biskupcova, Show Map
Widely regarded as one of Prague's finest art-house cinemas, the Kino Aero plays host to all manner of European films, retrospectives, film festivals and off-the-wall programming. Located in the suburbs of Žižkov, but easily reached by tram.

Budějovická

Budějovická 1667, Praha 4, Spořilov, Tel: +420 221 613 278, Metro: Budějovická/Kačerov, Show Map
Focusing mainly upon European films (particularly French), Kino Budějovická also shows popular Czech and US releases. Not the best cinema in town, although a location near to Budějovická/Kačerov metro stations (and cheap ticket prices) make it worth seeking out.

Edison

Hlavní 1402, Praha 4, Spořilov, Tel: +420 272 767 667, Metro: Roztyly, Show Map
Found in the Spořilov district of Prague, the Edison shows mainly Czech films, with the odd US release thrown in for good measure. Actually not far away from the Budějovická cinema (listed above), although it's best to travel to Roztyly by metro and then take the 118 bus to Hlavní.

Evald

Národní třída. 28, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 221 105 225, E-mail: webmaster@cinemart.cz, Website: www.evald.cinemart.cz, Metro: Národní třída, Show Map
Another art-house favourite, this time showing European releases, independent US films and a good selection of home-grown material (with English subtitles). There's also a nice in-house restaurant/bar, although if you do plan to eat here, it's best to book in advance.

Hvězda

Václavské nám.38, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 224 216 822, Metro: Muzeum/Můstek, Show Map
A mix of European and US releases, although Hvězda's biggest draw is the cinema's location, being nicely situated just off Wenceslas Square.

Kinokavárna Jalta

Václavské nám. 43, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 224 228 814, Fax: +420 224 211 911, Metro: Muzeum/Tram 3, 9, 14, 24, Show Map
Far removed from the plush multiplexes found elsewhere in Prague, this is the last of the city's coffeehouse cinemas. And, although its mainly US releases that are shown here (critically acclaimed ones at least), the Jalta's unique atmosphere makes it worth a visit.

Kino Oko

Františka Křižka 15, Praha 7, Letná, Tel: +420 233 382 606, E-mail: kino@kinooko.cz, Website: www.kinooko.cz, Tram 1, 5, 8, 12, 14, 17, 25, 26, Metro: Vltavska, Show Map
Recently re-opened as a repertory and art-house cinema, the Oko (just like the Aero and MAT) offers more diverse programming, including cult classics, independents and first-run European releases. There's certainly a tangible enthusiasm here for staging top-notch world cinema, while plans are also afoot to revamp the cinema's café and lobby areas in the near future.

Kino 63

Národní 20, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 224 914 416, +420 224 914 416, E-mail: produkce@rockcafe.cz, Website: www.rockcafe.cz, Metro: Národní třída
Club, bar, Internet café and cinema all rolled into one. And, although we've yet to visit, a full review will be added for Kino 63 in 2003.

Lucerna

Vodičkova 36, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 224 216 972, E-mail: lucerna@lucerna.cz, Website: www.lucerna.info, Metro: Můstek, Show Map
One of the coolest cinemas in town, with a faded grandeur that reflects the Lucerna's historic past. Seating over 500 people, the auditorium screens critically acclaimed movies from Europe and the US, while a location just off Wenceslas Square makes planning an entire evening out a breeze.

MAT

Karlovo nám. 19, Praha 2, Nové Město, Tel: +420 224 915 765, Fax: +420 224 923 786, E-mail: info@mat.cz, Website: www.mat.cz, Open daily: 10am-midnight, Show Map
Okay, so it's one of the smallest cinemas we've ever been to. But, it does show some great art house/repertory films, boasts cheap ticket prices and has a location in the heart of Nové Město.

Mini-Multikino Modřany

Sofijské náměstí, Praha 4, Modřany, Tel: +420 244 402 255, E-mail: aldair@volny.cz, Website: www.multim.cz, Bus 139, 253, 504
Containing a pizzeria, bar, Internet café and scaled down multiplex (hence the mini-multikino tag) the Zábavní centrum is found within the Modřany district of Prague (just off Českoslov enského). US, European and domestic new releases shown.

Multikino Galaxie

Arkalická 1/877, Praha 4, Háje, Tel: +420 267 900 567, E-mail: info@cinemacity.cz and galaxie@kino2005.cz, Website: www.cinemacity.cz, Metro: Háje, Show Map
It's big, has nine screens, and could be anywhere in Europe. That said, the Cinema City Galaxie is a first-rate theatre with excellent sound and visuals. All the latest blockbusters are screened here, while a location next to Háje metro station makes it easy to reach.

Multikino Ládví

Burešova 4, Praha 8, Kobylisy, Tel: +420 285 857 131, +420 286 587 027, Website: www.multikinoladvi.cz, Tram 10, 17, 24, Show Map
Found on the site of the old Moskva cinema, the Ládví screens new and recent releases from the US, with an emphasis on teen flicks or crowd pleasing horror movies. Some way out of town, although trams 10 and 17 do a good job of ferrying punters from the city centre to Střelničná.

Palace Cinema (Letňany)

Veleská 663, Praha 9, Letňany, Tel: +420 257 181 212, Website: www.palacecinemas.cz, Bus 159 from Českomoravská
Run by the burgeoning UCI group, the Letňany is an eight screen multiplex located in the Prague district of the same name. With mainstream Hollywood and European films shown (either dubbed or subtitled).

Palace Cinema (Nový Smíchov)

Plzeňská 8, Praha 5, Motol, Tel: +420 257 181 212, Website: www.palacecinemas.cz, Tram 7, 9, 10, 58, Show Map
A thumping good sound system, excellent visuals and popcorn galore at this twelve screen multiplex that lies on the way to Ruzyně airport. Hollywood and European blockbusters feature heavily.

Palace Cinema (Praha Park Hostivař)

Park Hostivař, Švehlova 32, Praha 10, Hostivař, Tel: +420 257 181 212, Website: www.palacecinemas.cz, Show Map
10 screen multiplex situated to the east of Prague in Hostivař. As with other Palace cinemas listed on this page, you'll find Hollywood and European mainstream movies shown in a plush, modern setting.

Palace Cinema (Praha Slovanský Dům)

Na Příkopě 22, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 257 181 212, Website: www.palacecinemas.cz, Metro: Můstek, Show Map
The most downtown of Prague's Palace cinemas, with 10 screens, and an excellent location close to Wenceslas Square. In fact, for anyone staying in Staré Město (who wants to take in a movie) it's a must!

Praha

Václavské nám.17, Praha 1, Staré Město, Tel: +420 222 245 881, E-mail: kinopraha@email.cz, Metro: Muzeum/Tram 3, 9, 14, 24, Show Map
Another centrally located cinema, this time showing a mix of classics, art house releases and mainstream US/European movies.

Village Cinemas (Anděl)

ul. Radlická 3179/1E, Praha 5, Smíchov, Tel: +420 251 115 100, Fax: +420 251 115 135, E-mail: info@villagecinemas.cz, Website: www.villagecinemas.cz, Metro: Anděl, Show Map
Owned by Warner Bros. this popular multiplex (located in Smíchov) is handily placed next to Anděl metro station. Of course, it's mainly US releases that are shown, although the Anděl also regularly screens a small selection of European art house films too.

Village Cinemas (Černý Most)

Zábavní centrum Černý Most, Chlumecká 8, Praha 9, Tel: +420 266 790 999, +420 266 790 825, Fax: +420 266 790 835, E-mail: info@villagecinemas.cz, Website: www.villagecinemas.cz, Show Map
Located on the very outskirts of the city, Černý Most is the second of the Warner Bros. "Village Cinemas" in Prague. With a swanky lobby area and state-of-the-art images and sound, it's a pleasant place in which to catch a movie - although getting there is a touch difficult.
