The Big Bus Company

Big Bus Visitor Information Centre, 48 Buckingham Palace Road, SW1W 0RN, Tel: 020 7233 9533, Website: www.bigbus.co.uk, Tube: Victoria (for Information Centre), Show Map
Previously a winner of the 'London Sightseeing Tour of the Year' award, The Big Bus Company has been using open and closed top double-decker buses to tour the capital for over a decade.

Three routes are currently in operation, each being colour-coded (red, green or blue) with a corresponding coloured logo on buses to indicate the relevant tour. Each tour lasts approximately 1½ to 2 hours, although customers do have the opportunity to hop on or off the bus at designated stops/pick up points. In addition, you can also switch between tours at certain stops if there are particular attractions you'd like to see.

Buses run at intervals of between 10 and 20 minutes, while tickets can be purchased from a number of sources including the company's Information Centre, the London Tourist Board Office, selected hotels or, easiest of all, on the buses themselves.

Live commentaries are given in English, although the "The Big language tour" offers foreign language tours in French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Hebrew. Also included in the ticket price is a river cruise between Westminster and the Tower of London and a themed walk (depending on the time of day).

Harrods Luxury Sightseeing

Booking Office, Lower Ground Floor, Harrods, SW1X 7XL, Tel: 020 7225 6596, Website: www.harrods.co.uk, Tube: Knightsbridge, Show Map
Not content with having the most prestigious department store in London, Harrods also offer luxury sightseeing tours using either (open topped) Routemaster buses or air-conditioned panoramic coaches. The tours last around 2 hours and start /finish at the main entrance to Harrods. A live commentary and complimentary refreshments are also offered to passengers. Tickets are available from the store's booking office and some hotels.
