Although Fortnum and Mason's sells a whole host of traditional English and upmarket goods, the
store is most well-known for its famous ground-floor food hall. As well as offering favourites
including teas, relishes, chutneys and preserves, there are first-class chacuterie, patisserie and
confectionery departments (with hand made English chocolates). In the basement you'll also find a
well-stocked wine department as well as a range of luxury hampers.

While the vast majority of those shopping in Harrods' Food Hall purchase only souvenir teas, the
store still boasts an excellent range of gourmet items as well as highly impressive meat and fish
counters. In addition there's an excellent Neuhaus chocolate counter, delicious pastries (including
Lebanese baklava) and a quality wine and beer department on the floor below.

Arguably the most expensive of London's department store food halls, The Fifth Floor combines a
modern aesthetic with designer products and packaging. As well as own-label sauces, pastas, oils,
savouries and snacks, there are the usual bread, meat, fish and cheese counters, along with a truly
impressive wine selection. And, if you don't fancy carting a whole load of groceries back home,
Harvey Nichols also offer door-to-door delivery and a shop by fax service.

Although not the prettiest of London's food halls, Selfridges is a favourite thanks to excellent
cheese, fish and deli counters, plus an affordable range of Italian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese
foodstuffs. For those with a sweeter tooth, there's also a first-class range of Middle Eastern
sweets, while chocolate lovers can indulge themselves with Belgian assortments from Godiva and
Leonidas. Made complete by a quality wine, beer, Champagne and spirits department, Selfridges is by
far the most appealing for an ordinary (rather than special occasion) shop. We're not saying you'll
give up cheaper supermarkets altogether, but it's easily the most accessible food hall listed here.
