London Heathrow - Car Parking, Tube, Coach & Train
Travel
Heathrow is the country's largest airport (and the world's busiest in
terms of international passengers) with five terminals handling long-haul, transatlantic, European and domestic
flights. Located in West London (some 15 miles from the city centre) the
following public transport and car parking options are available to travellers:
Heathrow Airport Car Parking - the airport is situated close to
both the M4 and M25 motorways, with airport car
parking (both short-stay and long-stay) available on-site. Companies such as Park
and Go, Tel: 0870 902 2333, provide discount rates for secure parking, plus meet and
greet services. All of the company's car parks offer free courtesy transfers to and from the
airport (24hrs a day), while directions to each facility are included on vouchers
sent by email, fax or post. In addition,
car rental is available via our own site (in association with Auto Europe).
So far as public transport is concerned, all four terminals
are served by:
The London Underground (Piccadilly line) - single
fares cost £4 from Central London (for example Piccadilly Circus to Heathrow
Terminals 1, 2, 3 and Heathrow Terminal 4). To plan your journey visit: http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk.
Heathrow Express - the Heathrow Express, which was opened in
1999 by the Prime Minister Tony Blair, provides fast, efficient travel to and
from London. The
service is non-stop between Heathrow terminals and London Paddington, with a journey time of 15
minutes (20 minutes if you leave from Terminal 4). Trains run at 15 minute
intervals, while services start
at 5am in the morning and finish around ten minutes before midnight.
Upon arrival at Paddington Station visitors can connect to the Underground
(District, Circle, Bakerloo and Hammersmith & City lines) allowing them to continue their
journey further into London if required.
Coach and Bus Services - National
Express run services from London Victoria via Earls Court to Heathrow
(typical cost £10 single, £15 return), while the Airbus Shuttle A2 service
from London King's Cross (via Holland Park, Notting Hill, Bayswater, Marble Arch, Marylebone, Euston and Russell
Square) takes 90 minutes to reach the airport (Tel: 020 7222
1234 for more details). In addition, Hotelink
offer a door to door airport shuttle service costing approx. £17 per adult. Crucially,
the minibus only visits hotels required by passengers onboard, thereby saving unnecessary stops or delays.
For those staying overnight at Heathrow, a Hoppa service runs between
terminals to hotels situated nearby, namely:
Ariel, Comfort Inn, Crowne Plaza, Heathrow Marriott, Holiday Inn (M4, Junction 4),
Holiday Inn (A4, Bath Road), Ibis, Le Meridien, Novotel, Radisson Edwardian, Renaissance, Sheraton Heathrow,
Sheraton Skyline, Slough/Windsor Marriott, Thistle, Travel Inn and Quality Hotel.
Tickets for the service (which operates from
5.30am-11.30pm each day) are purchased from the bus desk in the arrivals area of
each terminal. Fares cost £3 each way, with children aged between 5 and 15
years travelling free if there's an accompanying adult. Children under five also
travel free.
Taxi - each terminal has designated taxi ranks,
with the fare into London costing from £40-55 (journey time is 45-75 minutes).
By booking in advance from companies such as www.londonblackcab.com
and www.londonblackcabs.co.uk,
you'll not only avoid queuing, but benefit from being met in arrivals by a
driver (as flights are monitored by their reservation staff) who'll also help
carry your luggage to the vehicle. Alternatively, a list of licensed mini-cab
and chauffeur firms can be found at: www.transportforlondon.gov.uk.
