Papyrus Museum

The Papyrus Museum once formed part of the Imperial Library but was taken over by the Austrian State following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. In all, the museum is able to draw its displays from a collection of almost 200,000 items, some of which date back to 3000 BC. Many are from Ancient Egypt and give visitors a good idea of various aspects of life in the Kingdom. Of particular note are texts and objects relating to the Egyptian obsession with the afterlife, while there are also some interesting Egyptian textiles on display too.
