Austrian Folklore Museum
(Österreichisches Museum für Volkskunde)

Laudongasse 15–19, A-1080 Wien, Tel: 406 8905, Website: www.volkskundemuseum.at, U-Bahn: Rathaus
The Austrian Folklore Museum has been located in the Palais Schönborn since 1917. Most exhibits cover the period from the 17th to 19th centuries and detail the life and traditions of people living in the Alpine regions and areas along the Danube. Of particular note are the traditional costumes, furniture and household items on display, while the museum also gives a good picture of daily life and local customs, where life revolved primarily around the village and local church.

In addition, you’ll find special exhibitions on folklore/folkart from abroad. For instance, currently the museum is hosting an exhibition of religious/spiritual art with items from as far afield as China.
