The Modesammlung was originally started as a private collection by Professor Alfred Lunz at the end of the Second World War, and was taken on by the Vienna Museum in 1954. Now regarded as one of the best collections of its type in Europe, it consists of over 20,000 items, the highlight of which are women’s fashions from the 19th and 20th centuries (including items created by Austrian designers). Other displays include clothing for men and children, plus fashion accessories.
