Doll and Toy Museum (Puppen und Speilzeugmuseum)
Schulhof 4, A-1010, Wien, Tel: 535 6860, Website: www.puppenmuseumwien.com, U-Bahn: Herrengasse
Housed in a Baroque residence dating back to 1728, the Doll and Toy Museum opened its doors to the public in 1989, having grown from a private collection accumulated over 20 or so years. The oldest piece on display dates back to around 1740, while the majority of the museum’s exquisite dolls are from famous manufacturers in Germany and France. With such fine detailing - not to mention delicate porcelain heads and clothing - the way in which the various dolls are also displayed shows them off in their full glory.
As well as dolls, exhibits include bears, dolls houses and numerous mechanical toys. What’s more, there’s a shop linked to the museum in which visitors can purchase antique and rare dolls (and they’ll even buy certain items if you’ve brought them to sell). Repairs to your own treasured doll(s) can also be arranged if you’re staying in Vienna long enough.

Greetings! I have filled an entire Grand Circle Travel cruise ship with collectors of dollshouses & miniatures. This will be my 3rd time coming to the Christmas Markets in Vienna - but the first time directing our travelers to your museum. Could you please send me a few brochures about the museum that I might pass among our group. Those especially interested in dolls and dollshouses will want to visit your museum, I know. I have several doll makers come with us, though the dolls that they make would be 1″scale for dollshouses. We will be in Vienna at the end of our trip, arriving Dec 9, having begun our trip in Nuremberg. But many of us will be staying on for the post cruise trip in Vienna until Dec 12. I look forward to hearing from you….but especially to visiting your lovely museum.
Kindest regards,
Molly Cromwell
