Danube Island (Donauinsel)
Website: www.donauinsel.at, U-Bahn: Donauinsel
The Donauinsel was created when the course of the Danube was altered to create a relief channel to counter threats of flooding. The island has since been developed into a pleasant recreational area of over 1,700 acres, with designated places for swimming and watersports. In additon, the "Sunken City" contains a good number of cafés, bars and restaurants, whilst also becoming a popular clubbing destination at night.
