Untere Weissgerberstraße 13, A-1030, Wien, Tel: 712 0495, Website: www.kunsthauswien.at, U-Bahn: Schwedenplatz then tram N to Radetzkyplatz
Designed by the remarkable Viennese architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, this superb museum was opened to the public in 1991. His style is unique, mixing bold design and decoration, while his most famous design - the appropriately named Hundertwasser House - can be visited nearby. The exterior of the building is striking and similar to the colourful style used in other designs. Inside, it contains many examples of his work which form part of the permanent display, including tapestries, paintings and models (with a number of temporary exhibitions shown throughout the year too).
The museum’s café is a pleasant spot to take refreshments, with visitors able to relax on one of the famous Thonet chairs (the Thonet brothers pioneered the technique of wood bending and their workshop originally stood on the site of the current building). Discount entry with a Vienna Card.
