Lipizzaner Museum
Stallburg, Reitschulgasse 2, A-1010, Wien, Tel: 52524/416, Website: www.lipizzaner.at, U-Bahn: Herrengasse
Most visitors to Vienna invariably associate the city with the famous Spanish Riding School and the beautiful Lipizzaner Museum.
While the school teaches equestrian skills (haute école) that have remained virtually unchanged in four hundred years, the museum guides visitors through the history of this venerable institution, with a fine collection of saddles, bridles, harnesses, and uniforms (all supplemented by numerous paintings, photos, documents and film presentations).
There’s also a chance for visitors to enjoy a glimpse of the beautiful horses, as the museum is located within the stables (Stallberg). Of course, when observing these wonderful animals, it’s sobering to think that Lipizzaners were almost wiped out entirely during the turmoil of World War II. Discount entry with a Vienna Card
