The Stadtpark is the largest of the green spaces bordering the Ringstraße, and was opened as a Public Park in 1862.

Laid out by the architect of the Imperial Gardens, Rudolf Sieböck, the park takes due note of the River Wien which flows through the grounds. Indeed, there are two bridges in the park over which the river is crossed. Numerous statues of Vienna’s great and good are dotted around the park, although pride of place goes to the lavish gilded monument to Johann Strauss, created by the sculptor Edmund Hellmer in 1921.

All in all a thoroughly nice spot in which to relax and take a gentle stroll.
