Completed in 1868, the historic and neatly proportioned Künstlerhaus was built as a dedicated venue for events and exhibitions. Owned by the Association of Austrian Artists, the site plays host to displays focusing on architecture, design and media, attracting both domestic and international exhibitors. Recent displays have included "east meets west", featuring contemporary art from China.

Attached to the Künstlerhaus is the "Künstlerhaus Kino" (opened in 1949) which has since built a reputation for screening avant-garde, experimental and rare films.

Note: Some disruption has been caused by renovations and the modernisation work taking place on Karlsplatz. Discount entry with a Vienna Card.
