Institute of Meteorites - Meteorites Museum

1 University of New Mexico, MSC03-2050, Albuquerque, NM 87131, Website: epswww.unm.edu, Open: Monday-Friday 9am–4pm, Closed on Saturday, Sunday and University of New Mexico holidays.
Having first opened in 1974, this interesting educational resource is located in the Northrop Hall on the Main Campus of the University of New Mexico. With displays showing just how scientists study samples to learn about asteroids, comets, the Moon and Mars, pride of place is taken by a one-ton piece of the stony meteorite, Norton County, that fell in Kansas in 1948. In addition, the museum has long-term loan on a 1,600 pound specimen of the Navajo iron meteorite from the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
