Hungarians love computers and all
things electronic. Not because they've suddenly been introduced to the world of and PCs and
consumer audio/visual products, but simply due to a fascination with how they work (and more
importantly how they can be modified or improved). In fact, most consumer electronics that you and
I take for granted today were invented by Hungarians. The cathode ray tube (CRT), colour TV,
microcomputer and Basic programming language were all Magyar creations. Indeed, the founder of
Intel, András Gróf (Grove) also hails from Hungary. So there you have it - a short
history lesson on how clever Hungarians are. Oh, and there are lots of nice electrical stores in
Budapest nowadays too...

All the latest gizmos and gadgets, including a good selection of wide-screen TVs, DVD players,
digital cameras and mobile phones (which Hungarians seemingly upgrade, on a whim, for the very
latest models). Burly security guards are there to stop dodgy youngsters pinching goods, although
innocent customers - such as yours truly - may also be swiftly escorted off the premises (if you
just happen to be after a battery for a video camera and enter said store with the camera in its
case). Needless to say, we were not amused, especially as a purchase was in the offing.

Occasionally, we've found the store to be a bit pricey, though a downtown location close
to Oktogon metro (on the yellow M1 line) is a boon.
