Budapest Bookshops

Budapest Bookshops

You are in: Budapest Guide » Budapest Shopping » Antiques » Art » Books Next Page »

All of the Budapest bookshops listed below stock a wide range of Hungarian titles, along with a selection of English and other foreign language books, while Libri and the Írók Boltja also offer a shopping cart for online purchases.

Wide range of English language books (fiction and non-fiction), magazines, guidebooks and periodicals.

CEU Bookshop

V. Nádor u. 9, Tel: 327 3096, Website: www.ceu.hu, E-mail: bookshop@ceu.hu, Metro: M1 Deák tér/M2 Kossuth tér, Open: Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat 10am-5pm

Írók Boltja

VI. Andrássy út 45, Tel: 322 1645 and 342 4336, Website: www.irokboltja.hu, E-mail: irokboltja@axelero.hu, Open Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat 10am-1pm, Metro: M1 Oktogon/tram 4, 6
Not much here that's actually printed in English, although the 'Writers' Bookshop' excels at offering Hungarian translations of US, UK and European authors, plus thousands of interesting home-grown titles. In-store coffee and an accomplished web presence also gets the Írók Boltja our thumbs up!

Libri

II. Libri Mammut Könyváruház, Retek u. 1. Mammut II. Üzletközpont, Tel: 345 8075, Fax: 345 8075, Websites: www.libri.hu and www.mammut.hu, Open: Mon-Thu 10am-9pm, Fri-Sat 10am-10pm, Sun 10am-8pm. Numerous stores around Budapest (see Libri website for details by clicking on the 'Üzleteink' link), Metro: M2 Moszkva tér
Now we're not saying that Libri is the answer to all your literary needs, but this chain of bookstores - which are found in all the major malls and downtown areas - is the Hungarian equivalent of Borders in the US. So, what you get are inviting stores, a great selection of titles, lots of stuff in English, language books galore (including all those hard to get sets of Hungarian books) plus, in some cases, in-store coffee and polite, helpful assistants.

Litea Bookstore and Teashop

I. Hess András tér 4, Tel: 375 6987, Fax: 209 3185, Website: www.litea.hu, Open: Mon-Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 1pm-6pm, Várbusz from M2 Moszkva tér, Bus 16 from Deák tér, or funicular from Clark Ádám tér, to Castle Hill
Situated in the quirky Fortuna courtyard, the Litea stocks a wide range of cultural books on Budapest and Hungary, along with CDs, cassettes, guides, maps and postcards. Tea and coffee served.
