András
Török's Guide to Budapest - written by a long time resident of Budapest who
knows the city inside-out, we've been fans of this title ever since the first
edition appeared way back in 1991. Describing the city through a series of guided walks, each are accompanied by
detailed illustrations which, as well as being beautifully constructed, serve as visual identifiers to help navigate
your way around the city.
|
|
Rough Guide to Budapest -
the very latest guide book on the city from one of the most authoritative
travel publishers around. Along with a useful 'author's picks' section, you'll find full
listings for galleries, museums and attractions in Budapest, along with background on excursions to
the nearby picturesque towns of Szentendre and Esztergom. Comes complete with detailed maps for the entire city.

Unofficial
Guide To Las Vegas 2006 - probably the only guide you'll need for downtown Vegas, this
extremely well-researched title not only gives unbiased reviews of casinos, hotels and
restaurants (with each rated accordingly), but also has its very own conference calendar,
plus detailed information on lounge shows, headliner acts, nightlife and gambling
rules. Our only criticism - if you're after information on sights further afield, then it's
best read in conjunction with offerings from Frommer's or Fodor's.
|
|
Fodor's
Las Vegas 2006 - ideal for first-time visitors to Vegas, Fodor's Gold Guide offering
is jam packed with information, not only for sightseeing, shows and gambling once you
arrive, but also in planning your trip to Sin City. Updated annually, each guide relies
upon local experts who know the city inside-out. And, with options to suit all tastes and
budgets, it's one of the most accurate and easy-to-read companions to Vegas that
you'll find anywhere. Very good indeed.

Rough Guide to London
- expert coverage of the city's sights, from Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament to lively Covent Garden and
attractions along the South Bank. As well as detailed accounts of the city's
neighbourhoods, including trendy Clerkenwell and Hoxton, you'll find up-to-date reviews of many of the capital's hotels and restaurants,
plus detailed coverage of London's shops, pubs and clubs to suit all budgets.
|
|
DK Eyewitness Travel Guides 'London'
- provides area by area descriptions of the major sights, along with a detailed section covering London's
history. Although not quite as detailed as the Rough Guide to London (see left) or Time Out's
London Guide, the book's excellent photographs and cutaway colour illustrations make it a
worthwhile companion. Newly published in January 2006.

Rough Guide to
Prague - head and shoulders above similar offerings, Rob Humphreys' Prague guide
offers an excellent full-colour introduction to the city, before giving the low-down on the
city's Old Town, Prague Castle and attractions further afield. Reliable reviews of local hotels and restaurants
make planning all the more easy, whilst sections on Prague's history, politics and culture, plus
a selection of detailed maps,
make this a truly indispensable guide.
|
|
Having
been plaudits of DK's Eyewitness Guides for many years, their use of photographs and illustrations
(to help convey sights and
basic information that would, otherwise, take several pages of written prose to explain)
make them worthy travel companions. Especially useful in
places where language can be a problem, DK's Prague offering is a
wonderful guide for non-Czech speakers, with cutaway illustrations of churches,
museums and places of interest that make sightseeing a breeze.

Only In Vienna: A Guide to Hidden Corners, Little-known Places and Unusual Objects
- from the outset it's easy to gauge just how much care and attention to detail Duncan
J. D. Smith has put into crafting this excellent Vienna offering. Indeed, we'd go so far
as to say that it's one of the best travel guides we've read in
recent years. The city's sights are described here in detail, along with an excellent collection
of accompanying photographs. All told, Smith's writing brings to life a city brimming with culture and tradition,
with emphasis placed upon little known details about Vienna's major and more difficult to
find sights. UK only.

Frommer's
Vienna and the Danube Valley - often travellers explore the Austrian capital in
conjunction with day trips further afield. Here, Frommer's offer detailed and complete coverage of all
Vienna's highlights, with detailed reviews of the major sights, museums and galleries
(along with accommodation listings). With the inclusion of side trips to nearby Danube River towns and Lake Neusiedl resorts,
it's a well-written and thoroughly researched title which, when bought in conjunction
with a decent Vienna map, offers almost everything that a first-time visitor to Austria
would need.
