Prague Travel Guides, Czech Language/Phrase Books and Prague Maps
|
Recommended Prague/Czech Books:
|
|
Lonely Planet - 'Prague'
- as our (current) favourite for Prague, Lonely Planet's offering is an informed, highly readable mix of essential
facts, historical detail and critical listings, neatly bundled with good colour photographs and b/w
illustrations. Along with useful 'Getting There' and 'Getting Around' sections, it contains a
well-ordered round-up (by district) of restaurants, hotels and places of interest, plus pages on
out of town excursions and language.

Rough Guide to the Czech and Slovak Republics
-
having raved about Rob Humphreys' London Guide, the author gets a big thumbs up once again for his
authoritative and highly enjoyable Czech and Slovak guide. Emphasis is placed on the major sights
and historical background, with Prague, Bohemia, Moravia and Bratislava all covered in fine detail.
Packed into just over 520 pages, this is a truly indispensable guide to the region.

Rough Guide to
Prague - head and shoulders above similar offerings, Rob Humphreys' Prague guide
offers an excellent full-colour introduction to the city, before giving the low-down on the
city's Old Town, Prague Castle and attractions further afield. Reliable reviews of local hotels and restaurants
make planning all the more easy, whilst sections on Prague's history, politics and culture, plus
a selection of detailed maps,
make this a truly indispensable guide.

Having
been plaudits of DK's Eyewitness Guides for many years, their use of photographs and illustrations
(to help convey sights and
basic information that would, otherwise, take several pages of written prose to explain)
make them worthy travel companions. Especially useful in
places where language can be a problem, DK's Prague offering is a
wonderful guide for non-Czech speakers, with cutaway illustrations of churches,
museums and places of interest that make sightseeing a breeze.

Cadogan's 'Prague' Guide
- a highly readable guide from Sadakat Kadri that provides well-researched basic information on the
city, along with plenty of detail to cover major sights, interesting historical background,
detailed listings and large, clear maps. Deserves consideration.
|
|
Time Out Guide 'Prague'
- a good all-rounder with interesting background on socio-political changes in Prague, plus clear, easy to follow listings
for hotels, restaurants and entertainment. Arguably less authoritative than Lonely Planet's guide,
despite being (slightly) more expensive. Note: US version is 6th edition.

heritage sights. Along with plenty of colour photos, there's a comprehensive travel tips section,
along with pages covering restaurants, hotels, excursions and things for children.
|
|
