The Balassi Bálint Institute offers Hungarian language courses and Hungarian studies for
non-Hungarians living or provisionally residing in Hungary. Semesters start in September and
January, with courses for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. In addition, 3 week summer
courses also take place in July and August. The quality of teaching here is first-rate, while
basic, no-frills accommodation is available on site for students and their guests.

With a location close to Budapest's Heroes' Square, the HLS offers courses aimed (primarily) at
preparing students for everyday life in Hungary. Class sizes are small (6-12 students in each) with
lessons structured towards everyday use of the Hungarian language, grammar and phonetics, reading
and writing skills, plus knowledge of Hungary itself. In addition, the HLS organises a wide range
of programs to accompany each course, while lessons utilise modern audio and visual equipment.
Prospective students are assessed through a written/oral entry test, with learners graded from
beginner to advanced.
